Previously a captain of Watford's Academy Under-18 team, defender Adrian Mariappa is a commanding and surprisingly uncompromising stopper for one so young.
Came to prominence when he took his place on the substitutes' bench for the final game of 2004/05 against West Ham United, but has since made several first-team appearances for Aidy Boothroyd's side. As a mark of his composure the Harrow-born centre-back helped his side to a clean sheet on what was his full league debut at Vicarage Road, against Hull City in April 2006.
Employed more recently as a right-back Mariappa was originally a centre-half for the Hornets. He will fight it out with Lloyd Doyley for the righ-back spot during the 2007/08 Championship campaign.
