The powerful centre half was another Aidy Boothroyd signing prior to the start of the 2006/07 Premiership season.

Speculation had grown all summer that the big defender was to leave Loftus Road and after turning down a move to West Brom he finally signed for the Hornets in early August 2006.

Shittu had been at QPR since October 2001 when he initially joined on loan from Charlton Athletic, the club he started his career with.

A brief loan period at Blackpool followed but it was in west London where he really settled and the popular London-born defender made over 150 appearances for the club after Ian Holloway quickly snapped him up following a successful loan spell.

Known for his physical stature and strong heading ability the Nigerian international relishes physical battles but is also a likeable, friendly man off the pitch and works with children in his native East London during his time away from football.

In January 2008 he left the domestic game behind to represent Nigeria in the African Cup of Nations, a huge honour for any African player.
