BRENTFORD FRIENDLY PREVIEW
THE Hornets continue their pre-season preparations tomorrow (Saturday) as they make the short journey across London to meet Brentford at Griffin Park at 3pm.
For the Golden Boys this is the second run-out for the first XI following their win over non league Boreham Wood on Tuesday.
The League Two side are managed by ex-player Andy Scott, he made over 130 appearances for the club between 1997 and 2001.
He became caretaker manager of the Bees in December 2007 and took over the position full-time in January 2008.
Boss Scott has certainly served his footballing apprenticeship; he played professionally for 12 years, enjoying spells with Sheffield United, Brentford and Leyton Orient.
He retired in 2004 due to a life threatening heart disease, before taking up a coaching role with Orient, going on to become their Youth Team manager.
After a successful stint as Assistant manager at Griffin Park, Scott was placed in a caretaker role after the sacking of Terry Butcher. He was appointed manager earlier this year after a string of impressive displays by his side.
The two teams have met on 69 occasions with tomorrow's visitors just edging the previous meetings. Watford have chalked up 24 wins and there has been 25 draws between the sides as well.
The Bees suffered an indifferent 2007-2008 campaign, eventually finishing in 14th place, but with a host of new summer signings, the Griffin Park club will have high hopes for the new season.
Amongst the new additions is experienced defender Adam Newton, a promotion winner with Peterborough last season, and Charlie McDonald, a dangerous striker with a good goal scoring pedigree in the lower leagues.
One major positive from last season was the emergence of midfielder Glenn Poole, who finished as the club's top goal scorer with 14 goals.
His impressive displays earned him plenty of admirers, and if Brentford are to stamp their mark on League Two next year, Poole is sure to be a key part of the team.
The 'Orns last faced Brentford in 1998 when Watford overcame the Bees 2-1 in League One - Tommy Mooney and Richard Johnson scoring the goals that day.
