CHAIRMAN ON POSITIVE AIDY MEETING
WATFORD Chairman, Graham Simpson, held a highly productive meeting with manager Aidy Boothroyd first thing this morning, less than 12 hours after the disappointment of defeat against Hull City at the KC Stadium.
And following Aidy's own frank assertion that it's time for change at Vicarage Road, Graham moved to highlight a positive outcome from what was an ultimately sad ending to the campaign.
He said: "We're all very disappointed at losing out to Hull City, as we hoped we would achieve our ambition of a swift return to the Premier League, but as Aidy said last night, it's not our time and it wasn't to be.
"Mark and I sat down with him this morning where Aidy laid out his plans for next season so that we can now prepare in the right manner for another assault on the Championship.
"It's going to be a new beginning for Aidy and the team and it will be a new style of play as he has already stated.
"Last night at Hull many fans asked me if Aidy would be leaving us, and the simple answer is, why would he when he has the Board's total support? Unlike many clubs we believe in continuity.
"What we are going to do now is quietly and efficiently go about our business over the summer, because there is a great deal of hard work ahead of us in the next few weeks as we implement our plans for next season."
When asked about how a second season in the Championship would affect the club in monetary terms, Graham was equally clear with his answer.
"The Club is in very good shape and we intend to remain that way. It is about economies of scale and we have our eyes wide open because this Club will never go back to being close to the precipice.
"Yes, it's time for change and I believe this will be a very positive way forward for the Club, which I emphasise is still healthy and moving in the right direction."
