McANUFF WANTS TO MAKE THE DIFFERENCE
THERE was a time earlier this season when, for Jobi McAnuff, life wasn't quite as it was meant to be at Vicarage Road, as injury and the in-form Adam Johnson contrived to keep him out of the team.
But with those frustrations far behind him now, the red-hot wing man is very much Watford's on-song midfielder, terrorising opposing defences week-in, week-out with his trickery and sublime ball skills.
This weekend he'll take those well honed skills to Home Park, land of Plymouth Argyle, where he'll hope to put them to further good use and put the Pilgrims to the sword. It's a game McAnuff is looking forward to, as he told the assembled media at yesterday's (Thursday) press conference.
"Plymouth are pushing for a play-off position and it's a game we're looking forward to. They'll be concentrating more on themselves, thinking they can win the game, which I think will suit us.
"They've done really well to kick-on after Ian Holloway left, so full credit to them for that.
"It's important not to lose to teams around us. We want to win all the games we play but it's equally important not to lose because no one is really running away with it. If we can win a couple on the bounce and as long as we don't lose then that can only be good for us.
"I've been pleased with my own form and I've been playing fairly well at the moment so I just want to keep doing it for the rest of the season and obviously help the team get promoted."
One thing that critics might argue is missing from McAnuff's game is a greater tally of goals, just two so far is a lean return from a man with such natural ability as an attacking player.
"It's not nagging away at me, it's just one of those things that you get sometimes. At Cardiff I remember playing as well as I am now and for whatever reason the goals just didn't come.
"I've been fairly close and I've just got to keep on plugging away on that front and with a bit of luck if I keep on playing the way I am I'll definitely get a few more before the end of the season.
"There was one that fell really nice for me the other day, I hit it well and I thought that was definitely a goal but there was a great block by one of Stoke defenders.
"That's just how it's going for all of us, not just myself, but if we keep playing the way we are then we'll definitely win more than we draw for the rest of the season."

One of the main reasons for the Hornets' drawing two consecutive blanks in front of goal has been a pair of uncharacteristic penalty misses by Darius Henderson. With Hendo having not hit the back of the net against Bristol and Stoke, who'll be next on penalty taking duties - Jobi himself perhaps?
"Yeah, definitely," he said. "We haven't sorted it out yet so I'm sure there'll be some discussion about it tomorrow and we'll go from there.
"There are a few of the boys who would quite fancy it but we'll see what happens. There's no point nominating somebody who doesn't particularly want to take one so I'm sure a few of the boys will be up for it and it could really make a difference and be a big thing."
The Hornets are unbeaten in 10, but that statistic doesn't tell the full story with six consecutive draws meaning Watford haven't got a points tally to match their impressive run without defeat.
Indeed, McAnuff admits to a little frustration around the squad on that point: "We're disappointed we haven't got more points but particularly against Stoke we played really well and but for a bit of luck in front of goal we would have got a win. Bristol was probably a bit more of an even affair and a draw was about right.
"We think we are playing well enough to be winning games and thin margins have been the difference between winning and drawing."
