TOMMY Smith was delighted to have wiped the smile off Ipswich's faces after condemning the Tractor Boys to their first home defeat since March 2007.

The winger grabbed his third goal in two games as he put Watford in the lead with a goal that propelled the 'Orns to the top of the table.

The Hornets extended their lead when Nathan Ellington scored a second and despite a Jonathan Walters strike, Ipswich could not deny the visitors the win.

Smith said: "We're delighted with the win, we always knew it would be difficult, but we spoke about the fact that records are there to be broken and we said how great it would be if we could be the team who come here and do just that.

"We do a lot of work on the team we're about to face and once again it's paid off. I don't know whether we caught them on a bad day or if we were just too prepared, maybe it was a bit of both, but you'll find a lot of teams have trouble contending with us when we're this organised."

Despite Watford getting their job done, Smith knows that there will be a whole lot more watching and waiting before the season is through.

"I've just heard that West Brom lost as well today so it's turned out to be a really great day. The fact that results turn around every weekend just goes to prove that this is going to go right down to the wire.

"You never look at the weekend's games and think 'that's going to be a home banker' because you just never know and that's why this is such a tough league to get out of.

"The new guys are settling in well and Nathan has just started scoring for us, so things couldn't be better at the moment, confidence is really high between the lads."
