MAT Sadler is the newest recruit on Watford's crusade to the Premiership.

Having met with the Watford officials today, most notably Aidy Boothroyd, the 22-year-old put pen to paper in a deal worth an initial fee of £750,000.

And it was the manager who explained the aspirations of the club to the former Birmingham City man.

Sadler said: "In terms of what I know about Watford, I only know what I've heard but everyone here who I've spoken to has told me about the club's vision.

"Aidy Boothroyd was everything that I thought he would be and everything that everyone's told me he is. I have totally bought into his way of thinking, this definitely seems like a club with aspirations."

The signing gives Boothroyd the defensive cover he's so desperately needed in the last week, but Sadler claims to be more than just a left back.

"I don't think I'm in the mould of anyone else, I just like to think that I'm a defender who does all of the fundamentals. I like to think that I do a little bit of everything well in terms of defending and I like to get forward a bit as well.

"I don't know any of the lads here personally yet, but I do know some of the coaching staff such as Dick Bate and Martin Hunter from my time with England."
