ROOKERY BLOG: JUST LIKE WATCHING...BRAZIL?
IT'S been a funny old season for the much beleaguered Watford supporter. I think all of us, even our ever vocal female support, have a little less hair than we did this time last year.
What begun with Aidy sitting on the roof of the stand at Wealdstone, ended with Hull fans in fake Burberry running on the pitch in front of us giving it large.
There's been some great away trips (Scunny, Ipswich, Naaaawich) and some frankly grizzly days at the Vic (Barnsley, Scunny, QPR).
Oddly I think Wednesday's cruel 4-1 defeat was the most enjoyable game of the entire season. For 70 odd minutes the red shirted Golden Boys were battling to do the impossible.
I can't ever quite recall a side trying so hard for their noisy fans behind the net. Not one supporter sat down on the KC seats for one second of the match.
Balloons, fists and flags were flying everywhere, beautiful passes were spinning around on the ground and even Graham Simpson who had quietly snuck in two rows behind me was giving it some beans with the "Watford 'til I die" chanting.
The football was entertaining and the drama was even more so. When 'ull finally did kill the game, it was hard to begrudge their supporters their fun.
They reminded me of Watford two years ago - utterly in awe of the journey they're on. Okay the idiots running on the pitch were enough to make me lose my cool, but I'm sure nobody was more upset with them than the time hardened real 'ull fans who used to stand on the terraces of Boothferry Park.
Apologies to the perchance now traumatised steward who had to listen to a season's worth of frustration pour out of my mouth when he failed to stop one particularly drunk pitch runner chucking bottles at the Hornets faithful.
Let's hope the next time our paths cross I'll be in a more chipper mood, having seen a once again rampant Watford pass the ball around like some kind of 1970's Brazil (with black not blue shorts).
Now when are those pre-season friendlies going to be announced? I'm bored of the off-season already.
Season Ticket holder Lee Coan will be bringing you regular updates on life as a Hornet and following the team on the road throughout the season. To see past articles click here.
