THIRD YEAR UNLUCKY
ON his third anniversary of taking charge of the Golden Boys, Aidy Boothroyd was in absolutely no mood for pleasantries as he watched the worst 90 minute performance from his men since taking the reins at Vicarage Road.
The Hornets were 'out-Watford-ed' by Phil Brown's Hull City side at the KC Stadium as they started strongly and dominated the proceedings throughout the whole afternoon.
Boothroyd said: "It was poor, it was a lacklustre start, an awful middle and an abysmal end. It was the worst performance, I can't think of one player who I can say did well today.
"They worked harder than we did, they tried to turn us around, they were better in the challenges and the regains and they deserved it. Sometimes you've got to hold your hands up and say you were beaten by the better team."
Fraizer Campbell was a constant thorn in Watford's side all afternoon and his pace and movement proved way too much for the Golden Boys. Two goals in the first 12 minutes saw the game slipping away from Boothroyd's side early on.
The 'Orns were without John-Joe O'Toole after the Irish under 21 midfielder picked up a knock in training at London Colney yesterday. He was replaced in the side by Al Bangura - who partnered Lee Williamson in central midfield.
Despite the poor showing from his troops the manager still believes that his squad has more than enough to pass the finish line.
He added: "We have enough in our ranks to do very well and get promoted this year but you have to play every second of every game to the best of your ability."
The dismissal of Steve Kabba will mean another suspension for the Golden Boys - and it comes at a bad time with John Eustace and Darius Henderson already banned.
