AIDY: "IT'S BEEN A LONG TIME COMING"
AIDY Boothroyd was absolutely delighted to see his side record their first home league win since October, and see some of his recent acquisitions slip effortlessly into the Watford way as three goals took the sting out of the threat of Wolves.
An early Steve Kabba strike started the evening perfectly for Watford and Boothroyd - and after soaking up some pressure from the visitors, two quick strikes condemned Wolves to a journey back to the Midlands with no points under their arm.
Boothroyd was happy with the performance and to get the win in front of the home crowd. He said: "Now we've got to make sure it's a regular thing. It gives us all a lift to win at home and it's been a long time coming.
"I am thrilled with the result and the fact that the home fans have something to shout about. I thought it was well deserved and all the new signings were terrific. Once we get big Danny [Shittu] back soon that will be like having a new signing too."
Changes were aplenty for the Hornets with Richard Lee captaining the side in place of Jay DeMerit who missed out with a groin injury. Mat Sadler continued to bed in at left back while deadline day buys John Eustace and Matt Bromby both started the game.
"I thought they were both outstanding today, I thought the whole team today showed a willingness to carry out the game plan to the letter.
"Leigh Bromby has this fantastic missile of a throw and he's brave, he'll put his head on things and he's very quick. John Eustace did all the things that we've been missing of late, he's got the presence of mind and the calmness to have a look around to make sure we don't get counter attacked."
Finally the boss had praise for a young man who has entered the fray again in recent weeks and put in a top class performance this evening. Boothroyd added: "Aidy Mariappa played 23 games last year in the Premiership and that'll do him the world of good, but he lost his way a little bit the early part of the season.
"But he's back now and you can see that he's growing in confidence and he'll leap above the likes of Rob Hulse and Kevin Kyle."
