BOOTHROYD ON A 'BIG RESULT'
AIDY Boothroyd marshalled his men to the top of the league with a 1-0 win over Sheffield United after Lee Williamson's first goal for the club made sure of the points.
Reflecting on the benchmark victory Boothroyd declared he is becoming increasingly pleased with the level of performance put in by his side.
"It was a big result, but it's still early days," said the Yorkshire-born Hornets manager.
"I thought we played some exciting stuff today and put the fear of god up them at times. I'm pleased with the result but I'm not getting carried away. We've got lots to do on the training field still."
The game was finely poised at the interval, but a cool, calm team talk seemed to do the trick, as the home team responded with an early goal.
"At half-time I told them to patient, to be calm, and to exploit some of Sheffield's weaknesses and I thought we did that. The system they played was a big compliment to us, to come and try and stifle us, but I thought towards the end of the first half we got the better of them.
"But for Paddy Kenny and a few bits of last ditch defending, we could have made it a higher score.
"At the other end Tommy Smith pulls off a wonderful goal line clearance, clearly he's our best defending player, which means I'll be having a word with the others next week. But for that, and some great last ditch defending from Henderson's headers, they could have got something from it. Bromby's throws are a hell of a weapon to defend."

Williamson, signed from Rotherham in January, has taken his time to settle into the Watford way, but he's hitting his straps now alright, leaving his manager only too pleased.
"He was outstanding today, he was once of our best players at Wolves and today again he's up against some good players in that side. If he keeps growing and improving like he has done this season then we're going to have a real player on our hands."
With the transfer deadline closing in Aidy also turned his thoughts to more movement in the marketplace.
"I hope you can tell that I'm not complacent about the start, far from it. Yes, I'm still looking to maybe bring players in to the club but I have to say that I am delighted with the start so far, we've proved we've got depth and we've proved we can get results."
